Press Automation Robot

O'Brien Group - Mosgiel, Dunedin

PW Engineering were approached by O'Briens in 2017 to develop a concept design to automate the infeed loading of their press to eliminate the need for two people to lift heavy bench tops across by hand. The design needed to accomodate a variable range of sizes and styles of bench top and needed to also allow manual processing of small custom sizes.

A prototype was constructed to prove the lifting principles and was tested in our workshop before the production machine was manufactured and installed over Christmas 2019/20.

The new robot features 6 servo axis' controlled by PLC with customised light curtain protected safety zones to allow manual and automatic production. A new roller conveyor and replacement glue spraying station were built to integrate the new machine into the factory.
